Sacramental Programme 2023-24

…the Sacraments are the place of God’s closeness and tenderness for us. They are the concrete way that God willed to come to meet us, to embrace us, without being ashamed of us and of our limitations – Pope Francis

This year the Sacramental Program is being led by Mrs Brown and Miss Dakin.

Those children who will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion whilst in Year 3, have been preparing for this through weekly catechism sessions after school hosted by Mrs Brown and Miss Dakin.  Father Tadhg has also been present for some of these sessions to help guide and encourage the children as they embark on the next steps of their faith journeys.

Here the children have been learning what it means to be the following:

  • We are people of God
  • We are people who pray
  • We are people who celebrate forgiveness
  • We are people who celebrate God’s word
  • We are people who follow Jesus
  • We are the Body of Christ
  • We are people who live our faith

Let us pray for our Year Three children. Stay with them, Lord, on their journey.

Lenten Retreat Days with Mary Farmer

In addition to these sessions, we welcomed Mary Farmer to our school during the Spring term who spent two days with our year 3 classes, leading them in a Lenten retreat. This complimented the work being done in class and at the catechism session and really helped the children to focus on preparation for Easter and receiving their forthcoming Sacraments.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

On Thursday 7th March, those children taking part in the Sacramental Program this year met with Father Tadhg to received the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church.

This was a beautiful afternoon attended by all children in Year 3 as well as Mrs Bollado and Miss Thomas (who accompanied the children on the keyboard) where we sang, praised and supported our friends as they took the next step on their faith journeys.

Sacrament of First Holy Communion

This will be taking place over two days during the Summer term on Saturday 10th May 2024 at 10am (3R) and Saturday 22nd June 2024 at 10am (3B) at Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church.

We ask that all of those taking part in the Sacramental Programme this year are kept in your prayers and, in the words of Bishop John Arnold, we ask Our Heavenly Father to ‘Stay with us Lord on our journey’.
