RE Curriculum Implementation Plan

As a new Religious Education Curriculum Directory has been published, our school is now in the midst of implementing a new RE curriculum, following advice given to us by Salford Diocese. Our plan is to use Source to Summit: Lighting the Path scheme, which has been fully endorsed by the Diocese. As it is only in partial publication at present, we are implementing the scheme as follows:

Academic Year 2025-26:

EYFS – Source to Summit: Lighting the Path.

KS1 – Source to Summit: Lighting the Path.

LKS2 – Salford Diocese Y3 pilot scheme.

Year Five – Salford Diocese Y5 Pilot scheme.

Year Six – A mix of the Diocesan Y6 Pilot scheme which we will be helping to produce and trial, plus use of our own planning based around the RECD. We decided not to have Y6 do the Y5 Pilot Scheme because that cohort had been involved heavily in the production and trial of the Y5 resources produced by the Diocese and one of our RE Leads, Miss Thomas, is a teacher in Y6.

Other Faiths work – for KS2 this will be from the Come and See units as advised by the Diocese. EYFS and KS1 will follow Branch 6 of their new curriculum, however will also participate where appropriate in our three faith weeks.

Academic Year 2026-27:

The whole school to use Source to Summit: Lighting the Path, due for publication for KS2 in July 2026.

Once the scheme is fully implemented, we will update our Religious Education Policy. We had already begun moving towards the outcomes of the new curriculum prior to our RE inspection in 2024 as per the policy below.

Religious Education is at the very heart of everything we do at St Mary’s. We pride ourselves in being creative in our learning and allowing our children to study scripture, opening their eyes and minds to God’s love through scripture, Lectio Divina, music, art, reflection, prayer, drama, technology, poetry and debate. This allows our children to all succeed, regardless of ability, as they are able to express themselves in a variety of ways in order to respond to scripture. Currently, we follow the outline provided by Come and See Religious Education Programme; we supplement this through the use of other pieces of scripture to allow deeper study and more engaging tasks that are accessible, challenging and relatable to the children in our school. See below for dates and see our RE and Prayer & Liturgy (Collective Worship) policies for implementation.

We give our children as much creativity as we can within RE lessons, from drama to mindfulness, from art to physical actions and everywhere in between, including use of technology. We visit our local church and hold interviews with Father Tadgh as much as we can and we are looking forward to meeting the new sisters who have moved in to our parish.
